I just changed my maf to one that was smoothed and polished out.
Now it idles rough and hesitates on take off.
and my (service engine) light comes on. When I read the code it says its running to lean.
HOW DO I FIX THIS?

Did you reset your ecm? Is it de-screened?

Really no way to fix the lean condition without getting it tuned.

I was going to recommend just putting your stock one back in but the ad said you had to send your core so you don't have it anymore.Your going to have to get it tuned. Are you planning on modding the car further? If so i would recommend getting all your parts on then get it tuned once for all your modifications. Not sure around your area but around here a tune isn't that cheap.

If you didn't unhook your battery before removing and installing the new one you will blow a fuse and the code reader will tell you have a lean condition. the fuse is in the fuse boxes under the hood I don't remember which one it is but that's what happened to me. I would clear the ck engine light and it would come back on in a couple miles. I used a test light with it running and found the blown fuse, replaced it and reset the light and haven't seen the light in 4 years. hope this helps you I know it is frustrating it drove me nuts for over a month.

Thanks Man
No I didn't undo the battery, I will check the fuses, I contacted the guy that I bought it from and he said he was sending me a new tuner.  Huh call me stupid, but what is he talking about?

well it sounds like it's either dirty or you didn't tighten something properly and have a leak after the maf allowing unmetered air to enter the engine.  They make a cleaner for it though I prefer to clean them with a q-tip and a gentle touch.
